Mat 4:19, “And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
He did not say I will make you millionaires or CEOs or ministers or anything else. He said I will make you fishers of men. This is the primary reason you and I were called. John 15:16, “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.”
If you are not fishing, you are not living. If you are not fishing for men you are not living.
Are You Following Him?
But you have to follow him. If you are not fishing you are not following Him. You might be coming to church but you are following something else. You might be following your stomach without knowing it. You might be following your personal ambition without knowing it. You might be following your satisfaction without knowing it. You might even be following the crowd without knowing it. Those who follow Christ fish. So the big sign that you are following Christ is your desire to fish; your hunger for fishing and your fishing activities and your contribution towards fishing.
Follow Him means following His direction. But they will have to follow His direction. They could not do it without Him.
If you are no longer interested in fishing, it is a sign that you have stopped following Him. He said follow me and I will make you fishers of men.
So the fundamental requirement is that you are first a follower. You are first a follower before you become a fisher. And to remain a fisher, you must remain a follower.
Requirements For Being A Successful Fisher Of Men

Follow me and I will make you fishers of men. He left a very strong impression in their minds when He did this miracle in their lives. He let them know that with Him, they will catch plenty.
To be a fisher
- Follow the Lord consistently, obediently and tenaciously. The mark of a true disciple is obedience. Nothing else matters if you are not obedient.
- Learn all you can about fishing for men.
- Make fishing for souls a priority.
- Invest prayer and fasting in fishing for men.
- Devote time to fishing for men.
- Devote your resources to fishing for men.
- Recruit the help of others to fish for men. Peter beckoned to his partners.
- Team up with others to fish for men. Peter worked with his partners.
