The elders in your village or community did not author marriage. Therefore, to run your marriage according to the marriage customs of your ancestors is to sign up for failure except those customs agree with the Word of God. For example, the belief in some cultures is that a younger female sibling cannot marry before an older one. This was what made Laban not to give Rachael to Jacob after he served seven years for her! Leah was given instead and that brought a lot of rivalry between the two sisters.
Marriage is God’s idea and expected to be run according to His Word. God authored the first marriage and gave instructions as to how it should be run. Ephesians 6:21-33.
God is indeed expected to author everything in the life of the believer.
Study the Word of God and find out what it says about marriage and run yours accordingly. It is a beautiful thing!
