John 13:4-17,
The disciples sat down while Jesus washed their feet. The only person that protested was Peter.
Jesus practically demonstrated humility and servant leadership to His disciples and told them that this is how they should serve with an attitude of humility. John 13:14-15
• In ethics, humility is freedom from pride and arrogance; humbleness of mind; a modest estimate of one’s own worth.
• In theology, humility consists in lowliness of mind; a deep sense of one’s own unworthiness in the sight of God, self-abasement, penitence for sin, and submission to the divine will.
• It is an act of submission to the will of God. Philippians 2:6-8. It is being prepared to do the odd job and making whatever sacrifice is required to do the will of God.
• It is serving without expecting to be praised or applauded.
• Humility is the route to divine promotion. Before honour is humility. Proverbs 15: 33b. If you are too big to serve humbly, you are too big to be promoted. Your greatness is released through humble service. Mark 10:44
• Serving others in humility is the route to joy and fulfilment. John 13:17. The reason many Christians are sad and joyless is because they have not found the secret of selfless and humble service.
• Humble service is your access to wealth and prosperity. John 13:17, Psalm 35:27
